Meet Dr. Ian Canepa, D.M.D., M.S. | Orthodontist in Lorain & Rocky River

Dr. Ian Canepa’s journey to becoming an orthodontist is rooted in both a passion for science and a commitment to providing exceptional care. After attending St. Christopher Elementary School and St. Ignatius High School, Dr. Canepa went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a focus in History from Tulane University in New Orleans. He then returned to Cleveland, where he received his D.M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Canepa furthered his education at Case Western Reserve University, where he earned his Master of Orthodontics, completing his master’s thesis on the [relationship between 3-D printing resolution and the quality of fit of clear retainers](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39818678/ ).

Dr. Canepa is highly skilled in various orthodontic techniques, including advanced orthodontic biomechanics, Phase I early intervention, and comprehensive clear aligner treatment for both teenagers and adults. He has also co-authored research on [obstructive sleep apnea in children with craniofacial conditions](https://www.aadsm.org/docs/jdsm7.10.10.oa1.pdf ). His research and clinical experience give him a unique perspective on modern orthodontics, enabling him to provide tailored, high-quality care to every patient.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. Canepa enjoys cheering on Cleveland's sports teams and closely following college football. A marathon runner, he completed the Cleveland Marathon in 2021 and continues to run for fun. Dr. Canepa and his wife, Alex, are proud residents of Rocky River, where they love spending time outdoors on the local walking paths, with their Staffordshire terrier, Ava, by their side or by the water. One of his favorite hobbies is cooking, whether he’s experimenting with new recipes or entertaining friends and family during the holidays.
