At Canepa Orthodontics, we provide personalized orthodontic treatment with braces for children, teens, and adults at our Rocky River and Lorain offices. Dr. Ian Canepa's extensive orthodontic training allows him to treat a wide variety of cases, with an emphasis on personalized care, efficient treatment, and excellent results.
Braces can be used to address many different orthodontic concerns. In some patients, braces may follow bite-correction or other orthodontic appliances. They can help create space for teeth that have not yet erupted, close unwanted spaces, straighten teeth, and coordinate the upper and lower teeth to create a balanced bite.
Throughout treatment, Dr. Canepa pays particular attention to symmetry, bite relationships, and smile esthetics. Every treatment plan is individually designed around the patient's orthodontic needs and goals.
At Canepa Orthodontics, we emphasize convenience and efficiency while maintaining a high standard of care. Dr. Canepa carefully plans each stage of treatment so that we can make the most of each appointment while keeping patient comfort in mind.
As treatment progresses, increasingly detailed adjustments may be made to refine tooth positions, the bite, symmetry, and smile esthetics. Dr. Canepa takes particular care during these finishing stages to achieve the best result possible for each patient.
Your treatment begins with a complimentary orthodontic evaluation. Dr. Canepa will explain his diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and any treatment options that may be appropriate for you. He will also explain what to expect before and during treatment so that you can make an informed decision about your care.
Depending on your individual needs, treatment may begin with an orthodontic appliance or with braces. When your braces or appliance are placed, our team will provide instructions for caring for them and maintaining good oral hygiene. You'll also receive a hygiene kit to help you keep your teeth and braces clean at home.
At subsequent appointments, Dr. Canepa and our team will explain what we're working on and what you can expect next. Appointments are scheduled at intervals selected to allow the planned tooth movement to occur before progressing to the next stage of treatment.
When your braces are ready to come off, we will have your retainers prepared so you can begin protecting your new smile right away.
We provide braces treatment at both our Rocky River and Lorain, Ohio offices. During treatment, you'll be cared for by Dr. Canepa and our experienced orthodontic team.
We work with patients and families to find convenient appointment times while scheduling enough time for Dr. Canepa to give each patient the individual attention their treatment requires.
Every patient is different, but comprehensive orthodontic treatment with braces often takes around 18 months in our practice. Early orthodontic treatment, sometimes called Phase I treatment, is often approximately 12 months.
Treatment time can be shorter or longer depending on the complexity of the case, the tooth movements required, patient cooperation, and whether bite-correction appliances or other treatment are necessary.
Dr. Canepa takes a methodical and efficient approach to treatment, with the goal of completing treatment as efficiently as possible without compromising the quality of the final result.
Having braces placed should not be painful. Some tooth sensitivity or soreness is common for a few days afterward as the teeth begin responding to orthodontic forces.
Our team takes particular care during appointments to keep patients comfortable and to explain what to expect following adjustments.
Appointments during braces treatment are commonly scheduled approximately eight weeks apart, although the interval varies depending on the stage of treatment. This gives the orthodontic wires and planned tooth movements time to produce the intended changes before your next appointment.
During detailed finishing stages, Dr. Canepa may shorten the interval between visits when appropriate.
If a bracket becomes loose or breaks between appointments, contact our office. We may want to see you sooner rather than waiting for your regularly scheduled visit.
Braces can be used for children, teenagers, and adults. Some younger patients may benefit from limited braces as part of early orthodontic treatment, while adolescents commonly receive comprehensive (upper and lower) braces once enough permanent teeth have erupted.
Adults can also be excellent candidates for braces as well depending on existing crowns, bridges, and implants.
An orthodontic evaluation around age 7 allows Dr. Canepa to identify developing problems and determine whether early or Phase I treatment may be beneficial.
Importantly, an evaluation at age 7 does not mean every child needs braces at age 7. Many children can simply be monitored as they grow and their permanent teeth erupt.
For children who don't require early treatment, the preteen years are often an important time to re-evaluate tooth eruption, jaw development, and the bite and determine the appropriate timing for comprehensive treatment.
When we place your braces, we'll give you detailed instructions about foods to avoid and foods that may need to be eaten differently.
As a general rule, very sticky, hard, or crunchy foods can damage brackets or wires. Broken braces can interfere with planned tooth movement and potentially extend treatment.
We'll show you how to enjoy many of your normal foods while protecting your braces.
The cost of braces depends on the patient's diagnosis, treatment complexity, treatment plan, and anticipated treatment needs.
At Canepa Orthodontics, comprehensive orthodontic treatment typically ranges from approximately $5,750 to $7,000, depending on the individual case.
We aim to give everyone accessibility to the smile of their dreams. We offer several payment options, including pay-in-full discounts, down payments starting at $500, customized monthly payments, and 0% financing.
During your complimentary consultation, we'll provide a treatment-specific fee and review your payment and insurance options before you decide whether to begin treatment.
Many dental insurance plans include an orthodontic benefit, although coverage varies considerably between plans.
Before your complimentary evaluation, our team can investigate your orthodontic insurance benefits so that we can explain your estimated coverage and treatment costs.
Even if Canepa Orthodontics is not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still have an orthodontic benefit that can be applied toward treatment. Our team can help you understand the benefits available under your particular plan.
Neither option is universally better.
In many cases, both braces and clear aligners can be effective treatment options. Depending on the patient's orthodontic needs, lifestyle, age, and treatment goals, one approach may offer particular advantages.
Dr. Canepa will evaluate your teeth and bite and explain which options are appropriate for your case so that you can make an informed decision.
